Project: Advocating Higher Welfare Chicken Farming Policies

The Institute of Research and Application of Advanced Biotechnology (IRAAB) is a non-governmental scientific and technological organization established under the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations. IRAAB focuses on applied research, technology transfer, policy consulting, and capacity building in biotechnology, agriculture, food systems, and environmental protection, working closely with government agencies, universities, associations, and businesses.

This project addresses the limited integration of animal welfare principles in Vietnam’s chicken farming sector, where existing laws prioritize productivity and economic value over animal well-being. Despite growing market demand for cage-free and higher-welfare products, farmers and enterprises face high conversion costs, weak policy guidance, and underdeveloped supply chains.

Through pilot farms, provincial policy advocacy, and supply chain development, IRAAB aims to demonstrate feasible higher-welfare chicken farming models, influence local and corporate policies, and strengthen market linkages. The project seeks to drive systemic change toward more ethical, sustainable, and market-responsive poultry production in Vietnam.
