Project: Regulatory Reform to Improve Pig Welfare in Bali, Indonesia, using One Health and Welfare Justifications

Sintesia Animalia Indonesia is a registered Indonesian animal welfare organisation using a decolonised , collaborative One Health and Welfare approach to advocate for animal welfare improvements in Indonesia.

This project aims to demonstrate the significant One Health and Welfare risks from the pig industry in Bali by characterising the supply chain from farm to consumer and using this to advocate for regulatory reform and improved health and welfare practices. This will be used primarily to drive improvements in pig welfare from farm to slaughterhouse.

Sintesia will use comprehensive, evidence-based data to advocate  for  urgent government action to achieve acceptable One Health and Welfare outcomes throughout the pig supply chain in Bali. The evidence will inform stronger enforcement of existing regulations, particularly regarding unregulated slaughterhouses, and support the development or revision of regulations. The project also promotes improvement through education, collaboration, awareness-raising, industry accreditation, and consumer engagement.
