Project: Technical support on farmed fish and shrimp welfare for improving production efficiency and contributing to sustainable aquaculture development in the Mekong Delta, Vietnam
MCD is a Vietnamese non-profit science and technology organisation established in 2003, working to conserve marine and coastal ecosystems, promote sustainable resource management, and support community development.
Vietnam is a leading global seafood exporter, with shrimp and catfish as key products produced mainly by small-scale farmers in the Mekong Delta. The aquaculture sector faces increasing challenges from environmental degradation, disease risks, food safety concerns, and climate change, threatening livelihoods and long-term sustainability.
The initiative aims to improve aquaculture practices to enhance fish and shrimp welfare, environmental sustainability, climate resilience, and compliance with market and food safety requirements. In collaboration with local government, the private sector, farmers, and other stakeholders, the initiative supports the research and development of a more sustainable aquaculture system.
